Blogging for many is more than just a fun pastime, it is also a source of income. A successful blog will generate revenue either through sponsorship or advertisement. However, in order to benefit financially from your blog, you first need to have a high level of reader engagement on your site. Increasing engagement can be challenging, but once you find the right methods to appeal to your readership, then people are likely to be more interactive with your and your blog. If you are struggling to find ways to increase engagement on your blog, here are a few basic tips to help you get started.

Keep Your Audience in Mind

When designing your blog, you need to think less like a blogger, and more like your audience. Try and think about what features they will appreciate, and what aspects might ruin their experience of your content. For example, if you have annoying pop-ups, then it might be off-putting to your readers. Therefore, you firstly should think about your site’s structure and tweak any features which are not going to improve reader engagement.

In terms of content, try and directly address your readers within your righting, as feeling as though their opinions are valued by you will draw them in. You should also consider who your target market is and produce content which panders to the interests of that demographic, on top of posts which are about your own interests.

Find a Niche

If you want better audience engagement, then you need to offer them something which they can’t get elsewhere on other blog sites. Ideally, you need to find a niche and create posts which fill a gap in the market. The first step to creating original content is to see what else is out there. For example, if you are interested in writing a post on fashion design, then the first step would be to search the web for a customer who is looking for those types of blog posts. See what your audience sees, and search for any missing information in other blog posts which you can include on your own to help you stand out.

Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization is something which many people have heard of, but very few actually understand. At its core, SEO requires you to alter your site and its content in a way which makes it more desirable to search engines, meaning you get better search engine ratings. Knowing the best way to optimize your site can be incredibly difficult, so you may benefit from getting help from established SEO services.

Aesthetics Are Important

On top of well-written content, you should also include good visual media, as pictures and videos are what draws the attention of your audience. On the whole, your website also needs to be as visually engaging as possible, so think carefully about the layout of your design, as well as your color schemes and site navigation. Remember to think like your audience: if you were a visitor to your blog site, what would your first impressions be?
